Smuggling of Mobile Phones Worth Over Rs 10 Million Foiled in Karachi

Karachi (NYTODAY) — Police in Karachi’s Site B area successfully foiled an attempt to smuggle a large consignment of non-customs paid mobile phones worth over Rs 10 million, arresting one suspect during the operation.

According to a police spokesperson, officers from the Site B Police conducted a targeted raid and apprehended a man identified as Naimatullah, son of Haji Lala, while he was travelling in a Toyota Corolla. The suspect was booked under relevant sections of the Pakistan Penal Code.

During the search of the vehicle, police recovered a total of 137 mobile phones concealed in hidden compartments. The recovered devices included 27 iPhones and 110 Android smartphones, all suspected to be non-duty paid goods.

Authorities said the phones had initially been transported via a passenger bus from Balochistan to the Yousaf Goth Bus Terminal. From there, they were being moved onward to Karachi’s mobile phone markets using a private vehicle.

The operation by Site B Police effectively intercepted the smuggling attempt before the goods could reach the local market. Both the recovered mobile phones and the vehicle were taken into custody and later handed over to customs authorities for further legal proceedings.

Investigations are ongoing to trace the wider network involved in the smuggling operation.
