Karachi: Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has disclosed that the network of recently arrested drug dealer Anmol alias Pinky includes several well-known personalities from the Pakistani showbiz industry.
Addressing the Sindh Assembly, Memon stated that law enforcement agencies arrested Anmol after intensive undercover operations and sustained efforts. Investigations into his full network are currently underway.
“The Sindh government has made the eradication of drugs a top priority,” he said. He added that a high-level meeting chaired by Faryal Talpur decided to take strict and indiscriminate action against all drug peddlers and their facilitators.
Memon made it clear that no one would be given any concessions, regardless of their influence or fame. “If any well-known personality or actor is found involved in this network, they will also face the full force of the law,” he warned. He emphasized that those who patronize or protect drug peddlers will not be spared under any circumstances.
Responding to the opposition’s demand for mandatory drug testing of assembly members, the minister said politics should not be played with such a sensitive issue. “If the opposition wants, every member of the assembly, including ourselves, is ready to undergo testing,” he offered.
Sharjeel Memon criticized the opposition for indulging in political point-scoring instead of treating the drug menace with the seriousness it deserves. He noted that the problem of drugs, particularly ice and cocaine, has reached dangerous levels in society.
The provincial government, he assured, will continue aggressive operations until the entire drug trade and its supporting networks are completely dismantled.
