US President Donald Trump has publicly praised Pakistan’s leadership, describing the country’s Field Marshal as a “great personality” and commending Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during remarks delivered in Washington.

Speaking at the Gaza Peace Board meeting, President Trump expressed admiration for Pakistan’s leadership, stating that he has a positive view of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and considers Pakistan’s Field Marshal a capable and strong leader. He described the Field Marshal as a “tough and good fighter,” adding that he appreciates leaders who demonstrate resilience and strength.

Trump Reiterates Praise for Pakistan

During his speech, President Trump once again spoke warmly about Pakistan, paying tribute to both Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir. He characterised the Field Marshal as a distinguished general and an influential figure, emphasising his leadership qualities and professional capabilities.

Trump’s remarks reflect continued diplomatic engagement between Washington and Islamabad, particularly on issues of regional security and stability.

Reference to Pakistan-India Tensions

The US President also revisited the topic of tensions between Pakistan and India. According to his statement, the conflict between the two nations had been intensifying at the time. Trump claimed that the United States played a role in de-escalating the situation and helping to prevent further confrontation.

He said that the US had conveyed a firm message to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, warning that heavy tariffs could be imposed if the conflict did not subside. Trump further stated that 11 jets were shot down during the Pakistan-India conflict, although he did not provide additional details regarding the circumstances.

Broader Peace Initiatives

President Trump highlighted his administration’s broader diplomatic efforts, claiming that he had helped bring an end to eight wars, with a ninth nearing resolution. He described the Gaza Peace Board as a key platform aimed at promoting long-term stability and cooperation.

According to Trump, the Peace Board includes major countries from around the world and serves as a significant forum for dialogue. He said there is no comparable body in terms of its mission and global importance.

Focus on Gaza and Regional Stability

In his address, President Trump emphasised the need for a brighter future for the people of Gaza. He also referenced peace efforts in other regions, noting that Armenia and Azerbaijan had chosen diplomacy and signed an agreement.

Turning to Iran, Trump stated that positive discussions were ongoing and that developments would become clearer within about ten days. He reiterated his position that Iran must not acquire nuclear weapons, warning that regional peace would be threatened if it did so.

Financial Commitments and International Participation

President Trump announced that the United States would contribute $10 billion to the Peace Board initiative. He also mentioned plans to speak with UN Secretary-General António Guterres to ensure the continued effectiveness of the United Nations.

Additionally, he noted that the UN Relief and Works Agency for Gaza is seeking to raise $2 billion in funding, while FIFA is expected to contribute $75 million towards a football development project in Gaza. Trump added that China and Russia would also take part in related efforts.

The Gaza Peace Board meeting was held at the Donald Trump Institute of Peace and was attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Before the formal proceedings began, a group photograph was taken featuring representatives from 47 participating countries, including Pakistan. Israel and the European Union are also expected to be involved in the initiative.

The event underscored ongoing international discussions focused on peace, regional cooperation, and humanitarian support.
