Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a telephone conversation on Tuesday with Iranian President Dr Masoud Peshkeshian to discuss the evolving regional situation amid growing concerns over possible US military action against Iran.
The contact came at a time when reports of increased US naval deployments in the region have heightened diplomatic and security anxieties. During the call, both leaders reviewed the rapidly changing circumstances in detail and exchanged views on the potential impact of escalating tensions on regional peace and stability.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stressed the importance of restraint and urged all parties to prioritise dialogue over confrontation. He emphasised that diplomacy and sustained engagement remain the most effective tools for preventing conflict and ensuring long-term stability in the region. President Peshkeshian echoed these views, agreeing that open communication and cooperation are essential to de-escalate tensions.
Both leaders reaffirmed their shared commitment to peace, development and regional harmony. They underlined the need for continuous diplomatic efforts and close coordination between neighbouring countries to address emerging challenges collectively.
During the discussion, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Peshkeshian also reiterated their resolve to further strengthen the long-standing, brotherly relations between Pakistan and Iran. They agreed to enhance high-level contacts, expand institutional cooperation and maintain mutual coordination on regional and bilateral matters.
The two sides emphasised that Pakistan-Iran relations should continue to progress on the basis of mutual trust, respect and shared interests. They also expressed confidence that stronger collaboration would contribute positively to regional stability and economic cooperation in the coming months.
