• Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has come out in defence of an ICE agent involved in the fatal shooting of a woman in Minneapolis, claiming the woman attempted to run over the officer. However, state and local authorities have challenged the self-defence narrative. Three videos of the incident reviewed by CNN reveal a more complex situation, with the events leading up to the shooting still unclear.
• The victim was identified as 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good, a US citizen and mother of a six-year-old child. She had spent most of her life in Colorado before relocating to the Twin Cities.
• Minnesota Governor Tim Walz said he had been warning for weeks that ICE operations posed a serious risk to public safety. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey also rejected the Department of Homeland Security’s account and bluntly told ICE agents to leave the city.
