US President Donald Trump has again issued a stark warning to Iran, saying “time is running out” for Tehran to agree a nuclear deal as a large US naval force heads toward the region. In posts on his Truth Social platform, Trump said a “massive armada,” led by the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, is moving toward Iran “with great power, enthusiasm, and purpose,” urging Iran to negotiate or face consequences far worse than before.

Trump portrayed the fleet as larger and more powerful than an earlier US deployment sent to Venezuela, and reiterated that it is “ready, willing, and able” to carry out its mission with “speed and violence, if necessary.” He warned that if Iran does not make a deal, the next US military action could be “far worse” than past strikes.

The president’s message framed the buildup as both a threat and an incentive to bring Tehran back to the negotiating table over its nuclear program and other regional security concerns.

Iran’s government responded defiantly, rejecting negotiations under the pressure of military threats. Tehran’s mission to the United Nations said Iran remains ready for dialogue on the basis of “mutual respect and interests,” but warned that if pushed, it “will defend itself and respond like never before.”

While Trump emphasized the military buildup, he also signaled openness to talks. The Pentagon stated it is prepared for possible action, but Trump expressed hope that military force may not be necessary if diplomacy can proceed.

Regional diplomacy is ongoing as Arab and Muslim powers work to avert a broader US-Iran conflict. Leaders from countries including Qatar, Turkey, and the UAE have been engaged in efforts to de-escalate rising tensions.

Key context: The warning comes amid long-running disputes over Iran’s nuclear program and recent internal unrest in Iran, with the US and others pressing Tehran to halt enrichment and reduce support for proxy groups. Both sides have maintained strong rhetoric, and the situation remains volatile.
