Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar has confirmed that former Prime Minister Imran Khan was temporarily shifted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for medical treatment.

Speaking to the media, the minister said that a team of ophthalmologists first examined Imran Khan at Adiala Jail. Following the examination, doctors recommended that he be taken to PIMS to undergo a minor medical procedure related to an eye condition. Acting on medical advice, Imran Khan was transferred to the hospital late at night.

According to Attaullah Tarar, Imran Khan underwent a complete medical assessment at PIMS, after which a procedure lasting approximately 20 minutes was carried out with his written consent. Once the procedure was completed successfully, he was shifted back to Adiala Jail. The minister added that the transfer was purely on medical grounds and followed standard protocols.

A report published by Dawn quoted a senior PIMS doctor as saying that Imran Khan was brought to the hospital under strict security arrangements during the night between Saturday and Sunday. The report stated that heightened security and surveillance were maintained around the operation theatres while the medical procedure was performed.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has claimed that Imran Khan is suffering from a serious eye condition known as Central Retinal Vein Occlusion (CRVO) in his right eye. According to the party, the condition could severely affect his eyesight if not treated properly. PTI has expressed concern that prison authorities are pushing for treatment within the jail, despite the need for specialised facilities and advanced operation theatres.

PTI has further alleged that, despite orders from the Islamabad High Court, Imran Khan’s personal physician has not been allowed to examine him. The party claims that requests for a comprehensive medical examination have been pending since August 2025. PTI has demanded that Imran Khan be provided immediate access to proper medical care and allowed to meet his family and close associates.
