Uncertainty continues to surround Pakistan’s participation in the upcoming T20 World Cup as Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is expected to meet Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif today for crucial consultations on the matter.
According to sources, the issue will also be discussed with Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, highlighting the diplomatic and security dimensions linked to the decision. Although the national squad for the T20 World Cup has already been announced, questions remain over whether the team will ultimately take part in the tournament.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has reiterated the board’s strong stance against what he described as the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) “double standards,” emphasizing that Pakistan expects equal treatment in international cricket matters. He stated that while the PCB has reservations, it will fully respect and implement whatever decision is taken by the federal government.
Federal Information Minister Atta Tarar confirmed that consultations are ongoing at the highest levels. He added that all relevant stakeholders are being taken into confidence and that the final decision will be communicated transparently once the process is complete.
Cricket analysts note that the outcome could have significant implications for Pakistan’s international cricket relations, team morale, and financial interests. Fans across the country are closely watching developments, awaiting clarity on whether Pakistan will feature in one of the sport’s most prestigious tournaments.
