Faisalabad NYT: Telecom Companies Fined $68.9M in Five Years Over (INP) Pakistan Telecommunication Authority imposed heavy fines on telecom companies for poor service.
According to the document, 9,000 mobile sites across the country are suffering from network availability problems, including long loadshedding and right-of-way problems, limited access to commercial electricity, theft and vandalism. The document states that the quality of service in KP, Balochistan and GB has fallen to an alarming level. Despite the claims of the operators, the network availability has not reached the license standard.
According to the document, in the first half of the year, PTA received more than 8,000 service-related complaints, of which 99.17 percent were resolved. PTA fined 68.9 million to telecom companies for sub-standard service in the last 5 years, while 39 show-cause notices and 17 warning letters were also issued to telecom companies during this period. The document further states that action is also being taken against operators for non-compliance with service standards.
